LARA THOMS - Artistic AssociateLara Thoms recently received a two year Creative Australia Fellowship from the Australia Council for the Arts to explore socially engaged, site-specific and participatory possibilities in contemporary art. Lara created a large scale public work Ultimate Vision: Monuments to Us with teenagers in a Westfield shopping centre as part of the Museum of Contemporary Art's C3WEST program. Other works include 'Exposition' for the Melbourne Art Fair with Jason Maling, and ‘The Experts Project’, (2011- 2013) where she spoke with 150 ‘unofficial experts’ as part of Local Positioning Systems at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Along with her work in Aphids, her inter-disciplinary, collaborative projects have been presented at the Next Wave Festival, Canberra Contemporary Art Space, Radial System V, Berlin, Media Arts Asia Pacific Festival, Raumars Finland, and the Australian Centre for Photography. In 2013 she collaborated with 87 yr old Joy Hruby, a DIY television broadcaster for the Tele Visions festival at Performance Space. Lara has recently been developing a new work with Indonesian Artist Wok the Rok after a residency in Jogjakarta curated by Gertrude Contemporary. Lara has taken on arts mentoring roles for South East Arts, JUMP mentoring, Next Wave Kickstart and Natimuk Infuse program. She sits on the PACT board and is part of collective field theory.
