Remote Sense Outcomes

Remote Sense Outcomes
Landscape inspired video and music works at the Castlemaine State Festival.

In April 2011, mentoring outcomes from the Remote Sense Scheme were presented by artists Antoinette J Citizen and Kristin Rule as part of the Castlemaine State Festival.

Punctum and Aphids-mentored artist Antoinette J. Citizen screened three new video works featuring science fiction interventions on our local countryside, where our landscapes become backdrops for fantastical happenings, in the cool comfort of the ICU underground.

Kristin Rule’s new release, The Knife that Cuts a Tear, reaches deeply into the hearts and minds of listeners from all walks of life. A composition graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts, Kristin has found her voice in the form of a cello and a loopstation.

In the premiere performance at Castlemaine, music and moving images combined to entice audiences on a mesmerising journey through contrasting emotional landscapes; of places both known and unknown, real and imagined.

The moving images for these works are the result of an Aphids’ Remote Sense residency and mentoring program, in collaboration with Punctum and filmmakers Paul Fletcher and Miles Bennett.
