Lz Dunn - Artistic AssociateLZ DUNN is a Melbourne-based interdisciplinary artist working across performance, movement, video and participatory models to consider queerness, ecology, ‘nature’ and place.
Flyway, Lz's collaborative project with Lawrence English is Flyway is a performative audiovisual walk that immerses audiences in the epic plight of migratory birds. Created responsively in each new location it explores our shifting urban ecological interconnections. Through the use of binoculars, a mobile sound score and video artworks installed on route it embeds field research of local birds, people and places into the fabric of the performance site so that audiences unfold a personal cinematic vision of absence and presence.
Flyway was a co-winner of the international Music Theatre NOW (MTN) competition (2012) and received the MTN Operadagen Rotterdam Award (2013). It has been presented in Melbourne, Australia; Rotterdam, Netherlands; Varna, Bulgaria; and Vilnius, Lithuania.
Lz is currently developing two independent new works. Aeon is a project that links bird flocking and queer ecology through walking, listening and group movement through exterior and interior space. Epiphany is a solo dance of with improvisation and transitional states.
Lz has presented and performed in solo and collaborative works across Australia, including at the Next Wave Festival, Arts House, Performance Space, Brisbane Powerhouse, Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, Salamanca Arts Centre, On Edge Festival, Darwin Festival, The National Portrait Gallery, KickArts Contemporary Arts and Cairns Regional Art Gallery, Federation Square, the Gertrude St Projection Festival and MOFO.
With Aphids Lz is also a co-creator of Howl, A Singular Phenomenon, Game Show, The Drive In Project, Thrashing Without Looking and Last Night Now.
