YAKUMO HONJIN: DEVELOPMENT
A music installation for video, miniature percussion, violin and harp taking place in far west Japan.
Yakumo Honjin is inspired by a 280 year old samurai hotel located on Lake Shinji. The work has evolved from a creative development residency which took place in the samurai hotel in 2007. The result is a series of performances and projection based installation presented at Karakoro Art Studio in Matsue exploring the concept of ‘oku’ – or hidden – a theory which informs traditional architecture, garden design and music. The outcomes were toured to Japan in 2009.
